On the 11th of August we had the second social activity of our summer programme, a city and university walking tour of Oxford! The students had the chance to discover the gems of this beautiful city and its prestigious University.
It was a beautiful sunny day and Oxford was bustling with many tourists around. We started the tour at Carfax tower, nowadays the geographic centre of the city, heading first to the covered market, one of the oldest covered markets in England, which can boast beautiful independent shops and cafes.
After that we headed towards the heart of the university, looking at some of the old colleges and at the Sheldonian Theatre. We had a coffee break at Weston Library where the students could look at the 2 exhibitions, Tutankhamun and Sensational Books, discovering items like the Magna Carta and the 1st Folio by William Shakespeare.
In the second part of the tour we visited the Divinity School, the oldest teaching and examination room in Oxford, and other famous landmarks like the Radcliffe Camera and the University Church before finishing our walk at Christ Church, the biggest college in Oxford. After collecting our lunches from the Story Museum we enjoyed a nice picnic in Christ Church Meadow near the river Thames!’
