Sixth Form

EMBS offers you a supportive and welcoming environment that will help you learn and develop your confidence.

Our programme focuses on English and Maths, in addition to a range of courses, qualifications and new opportunities that will help you develop new skills, confidence and knowledge. We aim to provide you with a positive learning experience that will help you to progress onto further education and employment.

Lessons are planned to help everyone to reach their learning potential. In some cases, we will offer you 121 support to help you achieve your academic goals. With an average class size of 10 students, staff have time to get to know you and provide you with the help you need to achieve your goals. Small classes also ensure you will feel comfortable during lessons.

All staff are dedicated to student well-being. On arrival, you will be allocated a mentor that will support you throughout your time with us. We understand that you might be anxious or worried about joining a new college. Our staff will support you to feel comfortable and you can arrange a time to visit us to find more about our programme and meet the sixth form team.

We understand that each student learns differently. Therefore, we offer a comprehensive timetable which has been designed to give you a broad selection of teaching and learning styles and courses which are hands-on and practical as well as classroom-based.

Our Leadership programme will provide you with a learning experience outside of the classroom. You will take part in a variety of activities and challenges to enhance your skills. This will develop your confidence, social skills and well-being, as well as giving you a wealth of valuable experiences in and around Oxfordshire.

We are determined to be inclusive and make everyone feel equally welcome. We take great pride in the fact our staff and students come from diverse cultures, backgrounds and understandings. Respecting and embracing diversity is one of our key strengths.

We accept students all year round. The enrolment process involves a short induction and an initial assessment on arrival. This helps us to get to know you and identify the right courses.

Testimonials

«...I not only consider EMBS a college - I also see it as my family.... »

«I arrived in this country four months ago, without any confidence in my English and really scared to be an independent person at sixteen. I didn't know what my next steps were since the education in my country is really different. One day, my aunt bought me to EMBS. At the beginning I was really insecure as I didn't even know how to use the bus and get there, it made me feel like a child surrounded by grown up people that didn’t understand me at all. Ever since I started to study here, everything negative that I used to feel has changed completely. I’ve got to meet amazing people like Jo and Jane, who took care of me and were concerned about my future. I’ve also got to make amazing friends like Aisha and Abner that always make me laugh and feel positive about life. Of course, this is not the only thing that the EMBS has given me: they also are deeply involved in my education and they help me in any way possible to achieve my purpose, which is go to university and study human rights. If I am being honest, I not only consider EMBS a college - I also see it as my family. »
