ENGLISH FOR NATIVE SPEAKERS

Do you want to improve your English language skills?
Do you need an English qualification for work or further education?

At EMBS we run small supportive classes to build confidence, skills and enjoyment of English. Lessons are planned to ensure everyone is relaxed and engaged and can study in the way that suits them best. Our staff build strong relationships with students to help them achieve their academic targets.

You will work towards English Functional Skills qualifications, which are recognised by employers and helpful in gaining employment or progressing to study further courses. You will develop your skills in the four areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening. We deliver all levels of Functional skills qualifications from Entry 1 to Level 2.

ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHERS LANGUAGES (ESOL)

Do you want to improve your English to help you live in the UK?

EMBS has classes for everybody who wants to learn English as an additional language. Classes run in the daytime, evenings and on Saturdays. We have every level of class from complete beginners (A1/Pre-entry) to advanced (C1/Level 2). We will do all we can to help you get the skills and confidence you need to live and work in the UK.

At every level, we will help you develop your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills Our entry level English classes help students learn the English they need to communicate and carry out every day interactions in Oxford and Banbury, like buying bus tickets and attending doctors’ appointments. At higher levels, students learn to write to a high standard and communicate fluently, for example in writing formal letters and participating in job interviews.

Our friendly community means students build strong relationships with each other and their teachers. We supplement time in the classroom with visits to museums, the council, shops, the library and charity organisations. We explore topics like caring for the environment, British culture, government and volunteering to help you integrate fully into life in Oxford and Banbury.

You will work towards English Functional Skills qualifications, which are recognised by employers and helpful in accessing future education opportunities or employment in the UK. We deliver all levels of Functional skills qualifications from Entry 1 to Level 2 and students sit exams in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.

ENGLISH LITERACY

Testimonials

«...I not only consider EMBS a college - I also see it as my family.... »

«I arrived in this country four months ago, without any confidence in my English and really scared to be an independent person at sixteen. I didn't know what my next steps were since the education in my country is really different. One day, my aunt bought me to EMBS. At the beginning I was really insecure as I didn't even know how to use the bus and get there, it made me feel like a child surrounded by grown up people that didn’t understand me at all. Ever since I started to study here, everything negative that I used to feel has changed completely. I’ve got to meet amazing people like Jo and Jane, who took care of me and were concerned about my future. I’ve also got to make amazing friends like Aisha and Abner that always make me laugh and feel positive about life. Of course, this is not the only thing that the EMBS has given me: they also are deeply involved in my education and they help me in any way possible to achieve my purpose, which is go to university and study human rights. If I am being honest, I not only consider EMBS a college - I also see it as my family. »

«...I really enjoyed my time at EMBS, meeting so many different people and making lots of fun and happy memories.... »

«Before I came to EMBS I was very shy and often felt very awkward to start conversations with people around me, I never spoke unless I was spoken to but after a few months of being here I gained confidence and was able to communicate with other people comfortably, made good friends and feel like I knew myself. I really enjoyed my time at EMBS, meeting so many different people and making lots of fun and happy memories.»
