ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
Do you want to improve your English to help you live in the UK?
If English is not your first language and you wish to improve your confidence in reading, writing and speaking & listening to help with communication at home or work, EMBS can help.
We offer courses in Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing from New to ESOL to Level 2. The course you will be offered will depend on your previous qualifications and an initial assessment.
We will help you develop the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills you need to live, study and work in the UK. Our classes are small, friendly and fun, run by supportive and experienced tutors. Being in EMBS Sixth form is a fantastic way to develop your English skills as you will be using English all day and make many English friends.
Our entry level English classes help students learn the English they need to communicate and carry out every day interactions in Oxford and Banbury, like buying bus tickets and attending doctors’ appointments. At higher levels, students learn to write to a high standard and communicate fluently, for example in writing formal letters and participating in job interviews.
We supplement time in the classroom with visits to museums, shops, the library and charity organisations. We explore topics like caring for the environment, British culture, government, social media and volunteering to help you integrate fully into life in Oxford and Banbury.
You will work towards English Functional Skills qualifications, which are recognised by employers and helpful in accessing future education opportunities or employment in the UK. We deliver all levels of Functional skills qualifications from Entry 1 to Level 2 and students sit exams in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.
